Early surveyor |
In Florida, surveyors are registered as Professional Surveyors and Mappers (PSM). They are registered for several reasons:
- To show they have the technical knowledge to make the measurements.
- To qualify that they understand Florida Statutes and Florida Administrative Code,
as well as other pertinent rules and regulations.
- To regulate that they practice in a manner that does not harm the public
The
requirements to become a Professional Surveyor and Mapper include a
four-year college degree and successfully passing testing developed by
the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying.
This is followed by a four or six year internship, where the
candidate practices under the direction of a PSM. The final step
includes additional testing by the National Council of Examiners for
Engineering and Surveying and testing to satisfy the requirements
for the State of Florida. |
From
61G17-6, Florida Administrative Code we learn:
 |
Surveying and Mapping is
a process of direct measurement and analysis specifically designed
to document the existence, the identity, the location, and the
dimension or size of natural or artificial features on land or in
the air, space, or water, for the purpose of producing accurate and
reliable maps, suitable for visualization, if needed, of such
documentation. |
